David keynoted the American Legion Post 150-sponsored Memorial Day Observance held May 26 at the Sterling Veterans Memorial in eastern Loudoun County. Addressing those gathered, David said we honor the memory of our fallen heroes “by fighting for human rights – and rejecting the false choice some would have us make between freedom and security, as if in this great Nation there could ever possibly be any greater security than the freedoms we enjoy.”

David this month presented Smart’s Mill Middle School Teacher Patricia Herr a souvenir copy of H.J.R. 427, commending her for having been chosen Loudoun County’s Agnes Meyer Teacher of the Year. Presented annually by The Washington Post, the Meyer Award carries with it a $3,000 prize that may be spent as the recipient sees fit. David has introduced legislation in each of the three years he has been in office, commending Loudoun County’s teachers of the year. To read the full text of H.J.R. 427, click here.
David was guest speaker at the Loudoun County Association of Resource Families meeting held May 15 in Leesburg. David told LCARF’s members that “if we’re going to change foster care in Virginia – really change it so that it doesn’t look at all like it does today – we’re going to have to make getting a college education a key objective of every foster child in Virginia.” To read the full text of David’s LCARF remarks, click here.
The Commonwealth Transportation Board voted May 15 to support David’s request to allow Cedar Green Road between Route 28 and Shaw Road to remain open, rejecting a December 2007 Virginia Department of Transportation recommendation that the road be closed immediately. CTB’s decision ends a months-long dispute between VDOT and businesses in the area over the threat to public safety posed by closing the road before the 13 interchange improvements or the secondary road and intersection improvements in the area bounded by Route 28, Church Road, Davis Drive and Sterling Boulevard have been completed. David’s bill, honoring families of the war-dead, was signed into law March 14 by Governor Kaine. The bill eliminates the fee charged Virginia Gold Star families for specially-issued license plates. David attended a ceremonial bill-signing hosted by the Governor in Richmond on April 23. To read the full text of H.B. 61, click here.
